  • AFA Coffee Chat #1 (September 2024): This virtual event was a great opportunity for adjunct faculty to gather virtually to discuss their concerns and share experiences in a supportive environment. These engaging chats foster open communication and community among adjuncts.

  • AFA Coffee Chat #2 Off Topic Focus (October 2024):  "Emergency Communication: The Role of Educators in a Disaster"

We had a professional development opportunity to discuss how educators should be prepared to serve our communities by using emergency communication strategies during a disaster. As part of the discussion, we addressed the significance of teaching professors about GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and helping them obtain their ham radio licenses. Additionally, we covered acquiring the necessary gear for effective communication during emergencies. This session empowered educators with the knowledge and tools needed to play a crucial role in emergency communication.

The session was open to all faculty, staff and students since we all play a vital role in a natural disaster emergency ensuring the safety and well-being of our campus and the larger Central Texas. This workshop equipped us with the knowledge and skills to fulfill our roles effectively, ultimately contributing to a safer and more resilient campus and local neighborhood environment.

  • AFA Coffee Chat #3 Virtual Backyard Bash (December 2024): This online gathering offered a unique opportunity to connect with fellow adjuncts, share our experiences, discuss successes, and voice any concerns as the semester came to a close. We brought our favorite beverage and settled into our virtual backyard for a friendly chat. We celebrated our achievements, supported one another, and fostered community before the break.
